Marriage record, 1819-[ongoing].

To be married in Alabama a couple must obtain a marriage license from a probate judge (see Ala. Code, 30-1-9 [1975]). This series consists of a transcription or photocopy of the marriage license which is recorded by the probate judge within thirty days of the marriage. Information includes date of issue, names, residences, birthdates, race, birthplaces, prior marriages, and names of parents of the bride and groom, as well as a certificate signed by the person performing the ceremony. This record began in 1819 and continues to the present.
